In 2018, Wai became the first city in India to implement scheduled desludging of septic tanks. This was implemented by the city government in partnership with a private service provider through a contract based on the Performance Linked Annuity Model and supported by a Sanitation tax levied by the city government.
This year, Wai has successfully completed its first three-year cycle – an important milestone for the city. More than 3600 septic tanks have been serviced, covering 6800+ properties, with a 95% acceptance rate of these scheduled services. So far, 19 million litres of septage have been safely delivered to, treated and reused at the city Faecal Sludge Treatment Plant.
